Did a divination on a young man today, peering into the mythic divination cloth of bones, stones, cowrie shells, objects given to me by clients, objects found! When objects are spread, swirling cosmic stories left up out of the configuration, leap into my bones and empty out my mouth. The essence of this reading today is about belonging and who is our tribe. Over & over again, the reading kept pointing to this young man being placed in a circle of grandmothers, a circle of stones, a circle of redwoods. An old ancient grandmother showed up with so much love in her eyes for this young man, and she said, you are not alone, you have never been alone. And yet, we are born into this world, many times, not feeling fully welcomed, not fully seen, and begin to place layers & layers of protection to defend off the world from eating up our soul. Making sacred defense, defended, our instinctual, primal self knows we must do this. And then there comes a day, the veils, the heavy skins & furs have to be removed and we stand naked to ourselves and to the world. This unveiling can only happen by sacred witnesses that have come to welcome you home. This unveiling can only happen if we can open our hearts to receive the love of the ancient grandmother that looks into your precious soul and sees the original beauty that you came into this world with. For within each one of us lives this ancient grandmother so willing to give the blessings we each desire. What blessings do you need to give and what blessing do you need to receive?
Poem by John O’Donohue
blessed be the longing that brought you here
and quickens your soul with wonder.
may you have the courage to listen to the voice of desire
that disturbs you when you have settled for something safe.
may you have the wisdom to enter generously into your own unease
to discover the new direction your longing wants you to take.
may the forms of your belonging – in love, creativity, and friendship –
be equal to the grandeur and the call of your soul.
may the one you long for long for you.
may your dreams gradually reveal the destination of your desire.
may a secret providence guide your thought and nurture your feeling.
may your mind inhabit your life with the sureness
with which your body inhabits the world.
may your heart never be haunted by ghost-structures of old damage.
may you come to accept your longing as divine urgency.
may you know the urgency with which God longs for you.
